Mechanical Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists
Merrick & Company is an employee‑owned, multi‑discipline firm providing engineering, architecture, surveying, geospatial, and science and technology solutions. The organization focuses on delivering impactful projects that benefit clients, communities, and the wider world, rather than solely prioritizing the bottom line. Employee ownership empowers team members to take initiative, act with integrity, and pursue the best solutions. Merrick serves domestic and international clients across aerospace, infrastructure, nuclear, energy, manufacturing, bioprocessing, and life sciences markets, offering diverse opportunities for professional growth.
This is a full‑time, on‑site Mechanical Engineer role based in the Springfield‑Branson, Missouri area. The Mechanical Engineer will design, analyze, and develop mechanical systems and components for projects across Merrick’s key markets. Daily responsibilities include creating and reviewing CAD models and drawings, performing calculations, supporting machine and equipment design, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical accuracy and project quality.
The role also involves participating in project planning, assisting with cost estimates and schedules, conducting research and development activities, and supporting field evaluations or inspections as needed. The engineer will contribute to continuous improvement, adhere to applicable codes and standards, and support client communication and documentation.
- Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering, including fundamentals of mechanics, thermodynamics, and materials, with the ability to apply engineering principles to real‑world problems.
- Hands‑on experience with Machine Design, including component selection, tolerance analysis, and design for manufacturability and reliability.
- Proficiency in Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) tools (e.g., Solid Works, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar) for 3D modeling, drafting, and revision control.
- Experience with Project Management activities such as task planning, coordination with stakeholders, and tracking scope, schedule, and deliverables.
- Involvement in Research and Development (R&D), including testing, prototyping, data analysis, and documenting findings to support innovation and design improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution; EIT/FE certification or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, communicate technical information clearly, and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Familiarity with relevant industry codes and standards (e.g., ASME, ASTM) and an understanding of safety and quality practices in engineering design.
- Prior experience in any of Merrick’s core markets (e.g., aerospace, infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, life sciences, or nuclear) is beneficial.
