Overview
The Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant (SWWTP) is one of the two wastewater treatment facilities for the City of Springfield. It offers continuous treatment of up to 64 million gallons per day of Springfield’s wastewater and 100 million gallons per day for short periods, with an average daily flow around 35 million gallons per day. The City of Springfield is committed to protecting water quality in the Ozarks for many generations to come, and the SWWTP has earned a Platinum 8 NACWA Award for zero NPDES violations for 13 consecutive years.
ResponsibilitiesThe Plant Operator III will perform specialized skilled work in the operation and routine maintenance of sludge conditioning and thickening equipment, mixed‑media filtration, cryogenic oxygen generation, and ozone generation facilities.
Shift ScheduleThis position works every other Wednesday and every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 2:30 PM to 2:30 AM.
Qualifications- Two years of college or vocational technical training in wastewater technology, chemical or biological sciences or a related area.
- Three years of experience in an activated sludge wastewater treatment plant, or in a closely related area; or two years of experience may be substituted for a degree in biology, environmental science, or related field; or directly related work experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Must possess a Missouri Class C Wastewater Operator’s Certificate.
- A Class B Wastewater Operator’s Certificate is desirable.
- Must obtain and maintain a Missouri Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 90 days of employment and during the probationary period.
- Proof of United States citizenship or authorization to work in the United States as established by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986.
