Professional Growth Opportunities SkillsAs a Project Management Co-Op, you'll gain real-world experience while supporting capital projects, plant improvements, and maintenance initiatives that directly impact plant performance and operational success. Students will have opportunities to develop skills in:

The Project Management Co-Op supports Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and Finance teams by assisting with capital spending, plant improvement projects, major outages, and maintenance initiatives across MLC facilities. This role provides hands-on exposure to project lifecycle management, from feasibility studies and planning through execution and closeout.
- Assist with capital project planning, budgeting, and feasibility studies
- Support project justification efforts by evaluating costs, benefits, and operational impacts
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define project objectives, timelines, and success metrics
- Review engineering drawings, technical documentation, and project specifications
- Assist in developing scopes of work, cost estimates, bid packages, and contractor evaluations
- Track project schedules, budgets, and progress to ensure successful project execution
- Participate in construction oversight activities and help ensure compliance with MLC engineering and safety standards
- Support communication and coordination among Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Safety, Purchasing, Environmental Affairs, and other departments
- Assist with project reporting, documentation, and closeout activities
- Support kiln shutdown planning and execution activities as assigned
- Maintain project records and documentation for future operational and maintenance use
- Help improve existing databases and information management systems while identifying opportunities to develop new tools and processes
- Sophomore standing or higher pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline
- Ability to work in an industrial manufacturing, mining, and chemical processing environment
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or Solid Works
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following all safety and environmental requirements
