Description of Primary Duties
At Juanita K Hammons Hall, Assistant House Managers are responsible for the front of house operations during the run of a performance or event. This includes the lobby and audience areas. Assistant House Managers welcome the public to the theatre and oversee their safety and well-being before, during, and immediately after a show. They are responsible for opening and closing the house before and after a show with diligence and speed.
They need to be able to communicate well, and work as a team with fellow employees. This position also works closely with Hammons Hall volunteers, who serve as ushers and ticket-takers. An assistant house manager needs to be friendly, punctual, and reliable.
Key duties of this position include:
- Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service from front-of-house staff.
- Assists with front-of-house operations for public and preview performances.
- Provides an excellent patron experience at all performances.
- Manages printed program distribution and secures programs and other patron materials.
- Maintains the appearance of the lobby and all public areas; communicates with Maintenance, as necessary, to ensure a clean environment.
- Resolves conflicts with patron issues.
- Coordinates performance timelines with backstage, including preshow lecture, curtain speeches, and intermission.
- Maintains ticket-scanning equipment, assistive listening devices, and walkie-talkies for communicating with co-workers.
- Completes and distributes house report for each performance, if required.
- Provides leadership in emergency situations, including fire alarm and inclement weather warnings.

This is a public-facing position and requires a professional appearance. Assistant House Managers will be provided with a uniform shirt/vest. Employees are responsible for providing and wearing black dress pants or a black skirt, black dress shoes, and black socks that comply with the dress code.
Required Qualifications
Customer service experience, ability to lift up to 40 pounds for short periods of time, and flexible schedule.
