Position SummaryThe Head of Insurance General Account Solutions – US is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping and delivering Franklin Templeton’s insurance solutions offering for US insurance clients, with a primary focus on General Account portfolios. It combines strategic leadership, client engagement, and solution design, working closely with investment teams and internal stakeholders to address insurers’ evolving regulatory, accounting, capital, and asset and liability modelling/matching (ALM) requirements, and partners closely with the broader insurance leadership globally to contribute to the development of a coherent insurance ecosystem across regions.
Success in this position requires strong technical insurance knowledge (statutory, US GAAP, and capital requirements), credibility with senior insurance executives, and the ability to work collaboratively across teams to translate complex requirements into actionable investment solutions.
Strategic Leadership Contribute to the definition and execution of the US insurance solutions strategy, aligned with Franklin Templeton’s global insurance objectives. Work in close partnership with US leadership and international counterparts to ensure consistency of approach while reflecting local market needs. Act as a subject matter expert on US insurance investing, providing insight into balance‑sheet construction, capital efficiency, and ALM considerations.
Maintain awareness of global insurance trends and ensure US solutions benefit from international experience and best practices.
Client Engagement & Business Development Build and maintain strategic relationships with key decision‑makers at US insurers, including CIOs, CFOs, CROs, and heads of ALM. Support business development efforts by articulating Franklin Templeton’s insurance capabilities and identifying opportunities across public and private markets. Lead or support client discussions focused on portfolio construction, capital optimisation, yield enhancement, liquidity management, and governance. Work with distribution teams to position Franklin Templeton as a long‑term strategic partner, not solely a product provider.
Insurance Solutions & Portfolio Design Design and support insurance‑specific cross‑asset‑class investment solutions for General Account portfolios. Translate insurance constraints into practical portfolio design, considering capital charges, accounting treatment, liquidity, duration, and risk appetite. Collaborate with FTIS and internal investment and risk teams to develop analytical frameworks, modelling tools, and client materials appropriate for insurance decision‑making. Contribute to the evolution of insurance capabilities over time, identifying gaps and working with internal teams to address them in a pragmatic and commercially sound manner.
Regulatory, Accounting & Framework Expertise Strong working knowledge of US insurance and relevant offshore domicile frameworks, including NAIC/RBC, Bermuda, statutory accounting, US GAAP, and asset adequacy considerations. For US‑headquartered insurers that operate internationally, or non‑US insurers operating in the US, bring an informed perspective on global insurance frameworks, such as Solvency
II, ICES, RBC and IFRS, and understand synergies with US practice. Support clients and internal teams by explaining regulatory and accounting implications in a clear, practical, and commercially relevant way.
Collaboration & Leadership Operate as a team player, fostering strong collaboration across FTIS, investment teams, distribution, product, and client service teams. Contribute to a culture of openness, shared ownership, and constructive challenge. In time, support the development of a broader insurance solutions team,…
