Additional Information About the Role

BJC Health Care is looking for a Sr. Grants Specialist. This is a hybrid position with ideal candidates being located in the Greater St. Louis area.

Role focuses on:

  • Post‑award grant management
    , including contract oversight and ongoing administration.
  • Works with external funding sources (federal, state, corporate, foundation).
  • Ensures expenses are correctly allocated
    , manages invoicing
    , and submits required reports per contract.
  • Involves accounting tasks such as month‑end close, reconciliations, and balance sheet management.
Role Purpose

Provide pre and post‑award administration and financial management for BJC grants and contracts funded by federal, non‑federal agencies, foundations and industry sponsors. Fiscal management and compliance oversight are governed by generally accepted accounting principles, federal audit and regulatory guidelines (Uniform Guidance), relevant laws, sponsor award terms and conditions, and BJC institutional policies.

Responsibilities
  • Pre‑Award:
    Coordinate the review and readiness of grant and contract proposals for timely submission to sponsors. Verify and complete budgets, justifications, institutional assurances and certifications. Serve as primary liaison between principal investigators and external sponsors during proposal submission and contract negotiation.
  • Post‑Award:
    Establish and maintain grant project award profile in PS Grants Module through grant closeout. Review and monitor compliance with contractual award terms, government guidelines, and institutional policies. Manage expense and budgetary management and grant revenue recognition. Collaborate with BJC Legal and consortium partners on contractual arrangements. Serve as primary liaison between principal investigators and external sponsors for post‑award matters. Assist in BJC grant training and development programs.
  • Accounting:
    Maintain general ledger in conformance with generally accepted accounting principles. Prepare journal entries, budget adjustments, and analysis of budget versus actual results; reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts; prepare requests for sponsor reimbursement.
  • Reporting:
    Prepare and coordinate timely submission of regulatory and sponsor reports, including interim and final financial status reports, progress/technical reports and invention statements. Assist in preparation of BJC’s federal grant audit and other tax and cost reports or surveys.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Oversee compliance with institutional policy, regulatory agencies, sponsors, financial conflict of interest, federal effort reporting, debarment and suspension, human research protection (IRB), federal equipment management, and procurement standards.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting/Business or related field.
  • 2–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred: CPA.
