PROMOTIONAL POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

The purpose of this position is to accurately, efficiently, and expeditiously enter inmate pedigree, case, charge, bond, and court information in the Jail Management System and associated applications used in the Booking and Release processes. Officers must be able to multi‑task as they are responsible for ensuring the safety of fellow staff, safety and control of the inmates/detainees in the processing area, and the overall well‑being of inmates/detainees that are housed in the area all while performing the other functions of the Booking/Release processes.
Booking Officers must have great communication skills and constant professionalism about them as they are the first line of officers that inmates/detainees see upon arrival and also deal with numerous other departments and agencies from across the county, state, and nation. This position reports to the Corporal and or the Sergeant.
- Performs initial pat down searches of newly arrived inmates/detainees in the Arrest Intake area to ensure there are no weapons, drugs, cell phones, jewelry, or any other contraband on the subject that can be used to harm staff, the inmate themselves, or anyone else in the facility.
- Offer each arrestee the Amnesty Box for any contraband that may have on them.
- Performs X‑ray generated Body Scans on the Body Scanner machine to ensure no contraband is concealed within the body or other crevices of clothing items which helps ensure the overall safety of the facility.
- Booking Officers are trained to use this machine during their first month of training as a Booking Officer and then have ongoing training throughout the year to understand what to look for and how to properly operate the machine. Booking Officers, CPO’s, and Supervisors are the only officers authorized to use this machine.
- Performs thorough strip searches of inmates/detainees that are remaining in our facility due to bonds or holds or performs strip searches of those inmates/detainees which show probable cause to be strip searched.
- Must be able to work as a team as there are many aspects of receiving in a new inmate/detainee. Must be in contact with Medical (nurses) to perform a Pre‑Screen of the inmate/detainee in a timely manner as to get the arresting officers out of our facility and back on to their own duties. Must be in contact with the “Lead Booking Officer” or “Rover” so that everyone is aware when a new inmate/detainee arrives.
- Maintain constant communication with co‑workers in Booking to keep the numbers up to date as far as the daily population goes and who is and is not in our facility at any given time.
- Use MULES and REJIS to run warrant checks, search DOR information, perform criminal history checks, send messages to other law enforcement agencies in emergency situations, send routine messages to other agencies regarding bond posted or ready for pick up messages, and confirm outstanding warrants with other agencies.
- Complete required training in MULES/REJIS by their assigned Booking Training Officer and then complete an initial 8‑hour training course and test administered by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
- Complete ongoing training every year done in‑person by Missouri State Highway Patrol or via an on‑line course.
- Run MULES/REJIS applications.
- Responsible for handling cash that comes in with inmate/detainee property that is to be posted in the Booking kiosk machine to be put on the inmate/detainee account or to be applied towards their bond if they so choose.
- Responsible for running credit card transactions to post inmate/detainee bonds.
- Observe multiple inmates/detainees sitting in the open seating area while performing other duties such as: processing in, releasing out, answering phone calls, answering MULES/REJIS requests, running door access for nurses and officers to get through, and running door access for arresting officers to get in and out of the Corrections building.
- Performing 30‑minute well‑being checks on all inmates located in the Booking area.
