Overview
MO-SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital is seeking qualified candidates for an Echo Sonography role. Worker Type:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies in the echocardiography lab including Stress Echo Sonographers and/or TAVRS/procedures or holds two or more registries.
Job Responsibilities and RequirementsPOSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (Percent Of Time)
- Essential Functions:
Performs ultrasound procedures and examinations according to established department guidelines. 60-75%
Echocardiology specific:
Performs two dimensional, three-dimensional, m-mode, color flow, Doppler flow, ejection fraction, dobutamine and stress echocardiograms according to the Echo Lab policy and procedures manual and standards set forth by recognized echocardiography accrediting bodies.
- Clearly communicates and explains the exam procedure to the patient and any family members present to insure understanding and patient consent.
- Assesses patient’s medical, cardiac or vascular status by taking a history before the exam.
- Assembles a chart with patient information and enters information into the current PACS System or EMR.
- Records all imaging studies (digital archive) for review and interpretation by the Medical Director or designee.
- Completes patient billing to ensure accurate and timely billing procedures. 5%
Enters charges daily for procedures performed with no more than 1 error per week and verifies charges against correct account numbers and procedures. Prints reports from PAC, Epic and On Demand.
- Supports all functions, goals and objectives of the department and assists in the development of new programs. 5%
- Participate in development of new diagnostic testing procedures and evaluate new equipment for potential purchase.
- Educates residents and other medical or technical staff in technical aspects, indications and limitations.
- Promotes professional growth through educational programs, in-services, workshops, CEUs to maintain specialty certification.
- Participates in research studies requiring department services.
- Safety and Infection Control: practices according to safety and infection control policies (3-5%).
- Practices universal precautions and disposes of hazardous wastes; disinfects and cleans equipment per guidelines, including high level disinfection (HLD).
- Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment; reduces clutter and minimizes noise.
- Adheres to dress code and maintains properly; ensures equipment is clean and functioning; troubleshoots and contacts Clinical Engineering as needed.
- Reports risk management concerns and completes all mandatory requirements.
- Safety/Fire, Blood Borne Pathogens, Hazardous Communication, TB, Age Appropriate Care, and department-specific policies.
- Service: provides high-quality, courteous care and supports safety and customer service initiatives (2-5%).
Age Appropriate Care: provides age-appropriate care to Infant, Child, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patients as applicable. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development and involves family in decision making.
- Assists in daily department operations and engages in performance improvement activities (2-3%).
Other duties include daily data collection, equipment upkeep, and safety/infection control surveys. The position may require standardized activities such as safety training and policy adherence.
Qualifications- Minimum Education:
Echocardiography program graduate; allied health program in Echocardiography/Cardiac Imaging. - Minimum Experience:
Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS and/or RCS) or ARDMS RDCS with appropriate AE or PE specialty. - Licensure/
Certifications:
BLS; RCS or RDCS through CCI/ARDMS as applicable; ability to maintain required certifications. - Skills (administrative):
Compile statistics, manage paperwork for EMR, basic computer skills, and billing procedures. - Skills (equipment):
Proficient with ultrasound and Doppler equipment, EMR system, PACS, and related hospital technology. - Working Conditions:
Exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, hazards from equipment, variable hours including rotating call duties. - Protective Equipment: eye protection, gown, lab coat, mask, non-sterile and sterile gloves.
- Physical Requirements:
ability to lift up to 50 lbs, assist with patient transfers, long periods of standing, and handling heavy equipment. Vision and hearing capabilities required per job demands. - Required Professional
Licenses/Certifications:
BLS HCP; RDCS/ RCS or ARDMS with AE or PE specialization; ability to practice in applicable states.
