Under the direction of the Radiology Director and Manager, the Radiology Technician produces quality diagnostic medical radiographs, including OR, Fluoro, Dexa, or EOS, to ensure proper diagnosis and quality patient care.
Job Responsibilities and RequirementsPOSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA (% of time)
Essential Functions
- Demonstrates the skills to produce quality radiographs.
- Produces quality images by using appropriate exposure technique to ensure proper penetration of the area being radiographed.
- Demonstrates the proper use of metal markers and/or placement of markers electronically.
- Documents an appropriate patient history containing pertinent patient information regarding their condition and including patient limitations.
- Physician orders are written and verified prior to the start of the exam.
- Performs OR/Surgery cases using C-arms and portable machines efficiently.
- Supervises and teaches Radiology students exams and procedures as part of their clinical rotation, providing feedback to the Clinical Educator on their performance.
- Communicates technical information in a manner appropriate for the intended person (patient, co-worker, etc.).
- Responds to changes in workload using time to departmental advantage.
- Observes established departmental policies, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Environmental/Safety Compliance
- Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Adheres to hospital safety and infection control policies.
- Reports faulty equipment to appropriate persons.
- Uses protective equipment as needed.
- Practices Radiation Safety for patients, self, and co-workers.
- Wears radiation dosimetry badge daily.
- Attends departmental in-services and meetings as instructed by Manager.
Professional Development
- Attends appropriate orientations and required in-services.
- Attends departmental meetings or reviews minutes via MOX system in Meditech.
- Participates in continuing education and reviews education materials in the department.
Clinical and Professional Behavior
- Demonstrates cooperation and professionalism in all hospital areas.
- Displays initiative and enthusiasm for non-routine duties; seeks out duties needing completion.
- Promotes safety and infection control per policy.
- Maintains a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment; adheres to dress code; reports risk management concerns.
Regulatory and Quality
- Complies with HIPAA and confidentiality requirements.
- Participates in Quality Improvement activities and uses hospital information systems per policy.
- Enters information into the Radiology module correctly and in a timely manner; supports 24-hour report turnaround goals.
Age-Appropriate Care and Communication
- Provides age-appropriate care and communication for school-age children (6-12), adolescents (12-18), adults (19-64), and geriatrics (65+).
- Demonstrates knowledge to assess and interpret age-specific data and respond to questions accurately.
Job Specifications
- MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Graduate of a Radiology Technology program and registry eligible. - MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Two years Radiology Technology experience preferred. - REQUIRED COURSE: BLS
- WORKING CONDITIONS:
Exposure to blood and body fluids; exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other hazards; subject to varying or unpredictable situations. - PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand/walk for long periods; lift/push/pull 100+ pounds; move/transfer patients; perform physical activity daily with radiographic equipment and supplies.
Licenses and Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider - American Heart Association
- ARRT-R Radiography - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
