Assistant Histology Technician

We are seeking an Assistant Histology Technician to join our Histology Team in Maryland Heights, MO.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist in organizing data packages, entering data into study tracking and SMS.
  • Pull slides and organize materials for peer reviews.
  • Document all study and laboratory activities as required for compliance.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, monitoring, and calibration of laboratory equipment as assigned and troubleshoot issues as needed.
  • Operate and maintain slide stainer and cover slipper.
  • Operate and maintain tissue processors.
  • Pre-label tissue cassettes and slides.
  • Assist in preparing forms and equipment logs.
  • Prepare blocks, slides and tissues for onsite archive.
  • Receive incoming histology materials and purchased products as needed.
  • Unpack and examine histology samples and materials received, verify against packing slips, complete inventories and logs as necessary and place in established locations.
  • Maintain histology chemical, reagent and test article receipt logs.
  • Label histology supplies and maintain inventories.
  • Package necropsy materials and label boxes as required.
  • Maintain stock reagents, chemicals and materials.
  • Assist in managing hazardous waste and central accumulation area.
  • Perform general housekeeping related tasks as assigned.
  • Follow all company safety requirements.
Skills and Abilities
  • Able to read and interpret test results and instrument specifications.
  • Follow SOPs and other applicable laboratory or company procedures.
  • Interact with clients, other employees, and the community in a professional manner.
  • Effective organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to adhere to all company policies, safety regulations, and procedures.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Support and participate in other company initiatives as directed.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED, lab experience preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Physical Activity and Working Conditions
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior office or laboratory environment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.
  • Requires moderate physical activity with frequent talking, standing, walking and repetitive movement of hands and fingers, reaching and lifting 10-50 pounds.
  • Use of personal protective equipment when required (gloves, dust mask or respirator, and safety glasses).
  • Position frequently involves sharp instruments, solvents, irritants, acids, bases, and other hazardous chemicals, flammable materials, and biohazards.
  • Due to exposure to hazardous biological material (may include HPB positive specimens), immunization to Hepatitis B and/or other diseases may be a requirement.

Salary range will adjust along with the level of the role to match the person’s relevant experience and/or education level. Salary will be commensurate with experience and responsibilities.
