This position is responsible for accurate, precise, and timely performance of laboratory tests. Medical Technologists/Medical Laboratory Scientists evaluate and report test results while assuring compliance and meeting all regulatory requirements consistent with the quality of a World Class Laboratory.

The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist will be required to exhibit excellent customer service skills in line with Mercy Signature Service in all internal and external customer interactions. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

What You'll Do

As a Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will:

Deliver Accurate and Timely Testing
  • Perform a full range of laboratory testing and reporting in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and release test results with accuracy and precision.
  • Ensure all testing meets regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot testing issues and resolve unexpected results efficiently.
Support Blood Bank & Laboratory Operations
  • Perform quality control, calibration, and instrument maintenance.
  • Collect, process, label, transfer, and refer specimens using approved methodologies.
  • Maintain documentation and communicate findings to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Utilize laboratory and hospital information systems effectively.
Champion Quality and Patient Safety
  • Review and evaluate quality control data and implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Verify specimen integrity prior to testing.
  • Communicate critical results according to established policies.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, process improvement initiatives, and quality assurance activities.
  • Ensure compliance with all hospital, laboratory, safety, and accreditation requirements.
Contribute to a High-Performing Team
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Support staffing needs and departmental goals.
  • Assist with training and education of team members when requested.
  • Help maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service aligned with Mercy's Mission, Values, and Service Standards.
What We're Looking For

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field.
  • MLT or MLS certification (or obtained within 6 months of hire),
    OR
  • Completion of a 50-week U.S. Military Medical Laboratory Training Course.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field.
  • 3+ years of clinical laboratory experience.
  • MT(ASCP) certification or equivalent.
