Donor Specialist-Apheresis

The start date is September 28, 2026.

You will need to be available for the Hiring Schedule for approximately 10 weeks. Then you will move to the fixed schedule.

Hiring

Schedule:

Availability to be scheduled any shift Monday-Friday between the hours of 4:00 a.m.

-10:00 p.m.

Paid travel time in a company vehicle

Location for paid training: 220 W. Plainview Rd. Springfield, MO 65810

Schedule:

The schedule is subject to change per the needs of the organization.

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday shift: 7:30 a.m.

-6:30 p.m.

Sunday shift: 8:30 a.m.

-3:30 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs health histories according to Standard Operating Procedures and determines eligibility to include vital signs, hematocrit, medical criteria and eligibility determination for various types of donations.
  • Explains procedures to donors, including risks, and obtains informed consent.
  • Performs Whole Blood and Special Donation collections according to Standard Operating Procedures to include skin preparation, phlebotomy, sample collection, documentation and discontinuation.
  • Performs Apheresis collection procedures according to guidelines for apheresis instruments and Standard Operating Procedures to include instrument programming based on donor eligibility. Performs skin preparation, phlebotomy, sample and product collection, documentation and discontinuation.
  • Monitors Apheresis instruments during procedures and troubleshoots as necessary.
  • Provides care and customer service to donors throughout all phases of the donation process while demonstrating a positive attitude.
  • Exhibits cost consciousness and maintains a safe and clean working environment.
  • Performs quality control of equipment according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Exhibits professionalism, teamwork and adheres to established uniform and dress regulations.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and dependability with work schedule required to meet collection goals, to include weekend Apheresis collections.
  • Actively participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Provides excellent customer service, cultivating positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers and external customers.
  • Exhibits safety, accuracy, respectfulness and efficiency within specific job tasks.
  • Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to stand continuously for a minimum of six hours.
  • Able to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Hand and finger dexterity.
  • Visual and auditory acuity.
Job Specifications:
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • One year post-secondary education in a health-related field preferred.
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to comprehend and follow written instructions.
