Schedule:

Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays

Location:

Springfield, MO

Required Training:
We require a two-week (paid) training/orientation for the first two weeks of employment--weekdays from 9AM - 5PM.

Shifts:

8 hours; 7am-3pm, 3pm-11pm, and 11pm-7am

As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you're more than a caregiver—you’re a mentor, coach, and advocate who helps the people we support learn skills, make choices, and live as independently as possible.

What Does a DSP Do?
  • Teaching and supporting independent living skills such as cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and personal hygiene.
  • Helping individuals build confidence and independence through hands-on learning and encouragement.
  • Getting out into the community-visiting local businesses, participating in activities, exploring new places, and supporting individuals in becoming active, valued members of their communities.
  • Supporting employment, household, and personal goals.
  • Providing medication and behavioral support as required.
  • Working as part of a team to plan, communicate, and advocate for the individuals we support.
What Does It Take to Be Successful?

Passionate about supporting individuals with disabilities and helping them build greater independence and become valued members of their communities. A genuine commitment to the people we support and the mission of The Arc of the Ozarks is essential.

You don't need years of experience to make a difference. We're looking for people who are:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Patient, dependable, and willing to learn
  • Comfortable working hands-on with individuals and supporting their personal goals
  • Committed to treating the people we support with dignity, respect, and compassion
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Class E driver's license within 30 days of employment and have reliable personal transportation that is properly registered, licensed, and insured. Mileage reimbursement is provided for approved work-related travel.

Qualifications:

DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALDefinition

This is a human services position providing desired supports to persons with disabilities, in a residential setting, so that they may achieve the highest level of independent living possible within their community.

Essential Job Functions Mission and Core Values
  • Serves as an ambassador of the mission and purpose of The Arc of the Ozarks
  • Knowledge and understanding of The Arc mission statement and will uphold in their daily work.
  • Supports The Arc knowing that any one position may not include all of the duties listed nor do the listed examples include all tasks which could be included in the position of this class.
Care and Support of Individuals
  • Provides support to persons served in dressing, bathing, personal hygiene, house cleaning, laundry, and other activities of daily living.
  • Assists with the purchasing of groceries and supplies; supports persons served in preparing their own meals.
  • Assists in providing basic health care for persons served; takes temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, and applies simple dressings when necessary.
  • Administers oral, rectal, vaginal, optic, ophthalmic, nasal, and topical medications, after certification by The Arc of the Ozarks and Missouri State officials.
  • Takes appropriate action in case of fire and/or disaster or other urgent / emergency.
