POSITION SUMMARY

The Data Science Senior Manager is responsible for leading and scaling the enterprise data science and advanced analytics practice at Bass Pro Shops. This role owns the strategy, delivery, and operational maturity of AI‑ and analytics‑driven solutions that create measurable business impact. The leader combines deep technical expertise with strong people leadership and enterprise influence. They are accountable for sustaining and evolving existing AI solutions while partnering with business leaders to ideate, prioritize, and deliver new AI and advanced analytics capabilities.

The role works closely with IT partners, architecture, and the Enterprise Data team to ensure complex data pipelines and data‑intensive initiatives are designed for scalability, quality, and future‑state evolution. The Data Science Senior Manager leads multiple teams of data scientists and advanced analytics practitioners.

This is an onsite position, located at our headquarters in Springfield, MO. Qualified candidates must either already be local or be willing and able to relocate. A relocation package will be provided if necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Enterprise AI & Advanced Analytics Leadership
  • Owns the enterprise vision, roadmap, and execution of data science, advanced analytics, and AI capabilities.
  • Provides senior‑level technical and strategic guidance on machine learning, predictive modeling, and advanced analytics solutions.
  • Accountable for the health, performance, and continuous improvement of production AI and analytics solutions.
  • Partners with senior business leaders to identify high‑value AI and analytics opportunities and translate them into scalable solutions.
  • Serves as a senior partner to IT, architecture, and Enterprise Data teams to align analytics solutions with enterprise platforms, standards, and security.
  • Influences upstream data creation and downstream data consumption to ensure analytics and AI solutions are future‑ready.
  • Guides data‑intensive initiatives to ensure appropriate data architecture, governance, and pipeline design are incorporated from inception.
  • Aligns stakeholders on scope, value, and delivery expectations for complex AI and analytics initiatives.
  • Ensures AI and analytics initiatives are delivered on time, on budget, and with high quality against approved baselines.
  • Oversees model lifecycle management including development, validation, deployment, monitoring, and retirement.
  • Establishes and enforces best practices for responsible AI, model explainability, documentation, and data quality.
  • Identifies enterprise risks, dependencies, and single points of failure within analytics ecosystems and drives mitigation strategies.
  • Leads, mentors, and develops data science leaders and senior practitioners.
  • Builds succession plans and scalable team structures to support enterprise growth.
  • Identifies skill gaps and ensures continuous upskilling aligned to evolving AI and analytics technologies.

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum Degree

    Required:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in data science, advanced analytics, or applied machine learning.
  • Strong experience with Python, Snowflake and AI Prompt Engineering, and preferably multi‑cloud experience, with a priority on Azure and GCP.
  • 3+ years of experience leading data science or analytics teams in an enterprise environment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY
  • Proven experience delivering and operating AI and advanced analytics solutions at scale.
  • Demonstrated success influencing senior business and technology leaders.
  • Advanced analytics, machine learning, and statistical modeling.
  • AI solution architecture and lifecycle management.
  • Data pipelines, cloud analytics platforms, and large‑scale data ecosystems.
  • Data governance, quality, and responsible AI practices.
  • Strategic planning and portfolio management.
