Overview
Under general supervision will perform tasks related to the operation of communication equipment used in receiving, sending, and relaying information in response to Emergency/Non-Emergency calls according to the goals of Mercy, the philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy, Standards of Care, and Employee Code of Conduct. Determine exact location of each incident or request. Provide Dispatch Life Support (DLS) and post-dispatch instructions when applicable.
Maintain necessary documentation and records. Dispatch and track location of EMS units, relay operational information to field staff and managers/supervisors. Dispatch and coordinate flight of Life Line helicopters. Coordinate inbound and outbound aircraft arriving or originating from Mercy Hospital. Performs related duties as assigned. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.
- Operate communication equipment used to receive, send, and relay information for Emergency/Non-Emergency calls.
- Determine exact location of incidents or requests and provide Dispatch Life Support (DLS) and post-dispatch instructions when applicable.
- Maintain documentation and records related to dispatch activities.
- Dispatch and track location of EMS units; relay operational information to field staff and managers/supervisors.
- Dispatch and coordinate flight of Life Line helicopters and coordinate inbound/outbound aircraft arriving or originating from Mercy Hospital.
- Perform related duties as assigned and work in a manner consistent with Mercy mission, values, and Service Standards.
High school or equivalency.
Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certified by NAED within 90 days of hire;
Emergency Telecommunicator Course (ETC) or successful completion during initial orientation.
Experience functioning as an EMD-II.
Obtain agent certification through Metro Aviation (or applicable vendor) upon hire.
Working knowledge of all communication center policies and procedures; ability to function as a team member; proficiency with call-creation of emergency and non-emergency incidents; ability to enter data into a computer; strong verbal and written communication; ability to prioritize and categorize information; ability to learn and recall information; spell commonly used words; read and comprehend written passages; knowledge of mutual aid and assisting agencies;
proficiency with maintaining crew rosters, lineups, and rotations; knowledge of flight areas and aircraft services; familiarity with weather impacting aviation; competence in flight activation and flight following; proficiency with PAIP process.
Patience and emotional stability; ability to work in high-stress situations; indoor work with typical conditions; ability to sit/stand for long periods, occasional lifting up to 25 pounds; ability to react quickly to emergencies; specific vision abilities required.
Radio and CAD consoles, computers with word processing/paging/screening, printers, digital logging systems, headset/telephone systems, copy and fax machines.
- Preferred Education
- Preferred Licensure:
State of practice EMT or EMT-P license;
Certified Flight Communicator (CFC) through NACCS within one year of hire. - Preferred Experience:
One year in a public safety emergency communication center and one year as a field provider preferred. - Preferred Certifications
