Ministry Function:
The Disaster Relief Field Services Manager supports the ministry of Convoy of Hope and the Disaster Relief team by providing leadership in disaster response operations, with a focus on heavy equipment readiness and operations, debris removal, and cleanup efforts, and project management related to long‑term recovery initiatives, including repair and rebuild projects.
- Deploys as part of the initial response team to provide leadership and oversight for field operations including heavy equipment operations and debris removal/cleanup operations.
- Deploys as a disaster assessor and makes comprehensive recommendations regarding operational requirements, equipment utilization/needs, recovery strategies, and resource deployment to Disaster Relief leadership as assigned.
- Maintains a strong focus on safety when providing assessments of disaster‑affected structures and determining the deployment of team members and volunteers within those structures.
- Manages and oversees the deployment, utilization, maintenance, and accountability of DR equipment, trailers, generators, forklifts, chainsaws, heavy equipment, and other operational assets as assigned.
- Develops and administers preventive maintenance programs, inspection schedules, repair tracking systems, and lifecycle management plans for heavy equipment, operational assets, and tools utilized in repair and rebuild operations.
- Leads refurbishment, rebuild, restoration, and replacement projects, including project planning, budgeting, contractor coordination, procurement, scheduling, quality assurance, and documentation in collaboration with working group leadership.
- Maintains accurate equipment inventories, maintenance records, asset tracking systems, and operational readiness reports.
- Provides leadership to volunteer rebuild teams as assigned.
- Collaborates with the Recovery Services Director on long‑term recovery efforts, equipment support, and related projects as assigned.
- Assists in developing and delivering training related to field operations, equipment operation, maintenance procedures, safety standards, and disaster response best practices.
- During active disasters, serves as a field supervisor, equipment operations supervisor, or support lead as assigned.
- During peacetime, leads assigned working group projects focused on operational readiness, equipment modernization, fleet improvements, and response capability enhancements.
- Follows general and equipment‑specific safety regulations and ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, organizational, and industry safety standards.
- Supports other Convoy of Hope programs and ministry initiatives as assigned.
- Fulfills all other duties as assigned.
- Three years’ experience in disaster services, fleet management, heavy equipment operations, construction project management, maintenance management, or a related field.
- A bachelor's degree in a related field is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of equipment lifecycle management, preventive maintenance programs, heavy equipment operations, and equipment safety practices.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, planning, execution, and reporting.
- Ability and willingness to deploy often on short notice for extended periods during disaster response operations.
- Ability to positively contribute to team projects, cooperate with team members, and assist leadership with planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
