Position Overview

HDR is seeking a Value Engineer & Project Risk Management Lead who will assist the Value Engineering/Risk Director in developing strategic visions, tactical plans, hiring, workshare management, and project support. The role will lead VE and risk workshops nationwide, support business development, and collaborate with multiple business groups.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Value Engineering/Risk Director in creating strategic visions and tactical plans.
  • Participate in hiring, manage workshare and project assignments, and provide direct project support during select VE workshops and risk management workshops.
  • Collaborate with Business Groups, Market Sectors, and Business Classes to support client project needs.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal support, staffing assignments, and sub‑consultant identification.
  • Engage throughout all phases of project development and travel nationally as required.
Location and Travel

The position is location‑agnostic but prefers a site with significant HDR presence. Travel requirement averages 50%, with monthly variations between 25% and 75%.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering registration (PE).
  • Certified Value Specialist (CVS) with over 5 years of VE workshop experience on major infrastructure projects.
  • Minimum five years leading Cost and Schedule Risk Analysis (CSRA) workshops for major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs.
  • Experience managing wide‑range client relationships and specific program or project pursuits.
  • Active in industry associations with a visible profile in transportation and related markets.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with client managers, technical directors, business group directors, and operations staff.
  • Willingness to travel domestically up to 75% of time.
Required Qualifications
  • Certified Value Specialist (CVS) and six+ years leading VE workshops for major infrastructure projects, or a PE license with six+ years leading CSRA workshops for major infrastructure projects.
  • Maintain client relationships with public agencies or private entities, demonstrating a track record of success.
  • Experience developing and managing strategic marketing programs.
  • Experience managing a wide range of client relationships and specific program or project pursuits.
  • Active in industry associations with a visible profile in transportation and other key markets.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with client managers, technical directors, business group directors, and operations staff.
  • Commitment to HDR values and active participation in employee‑owned culture.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must possess a driver’s license, a U.S. passport, or ability to acquire one.
Compensation

Compensation ranges vary by location and experience:

  • California: $147,076 – $244,408
  • Colorado: $127,020 – $198,985
  • Connecticut: $147,076 – $198,985
  • Hawaii: $127,020 – $171,850
  • Illinois: $133,705 – $198,985
  • Maryland: $140,390 – $189,940
  • Michigan: $120,335 – $198,985
  • Montana: $120,335 – $162,806
  • New Jersey: $126,627 – $196,625
  • New York: $133,705 – $226,119
  • Ohio: $133,705 – $180,895
  • Rhode Island: $140,390 – $189,940
  • Washington, D.C.: $160,446 – $217,074
  • Washington State: $127,020 – $217,040
