WELDER ​/ GRINDER

Employees in this classification have a basic understanding and competency in welding and grinding operations.

• Ability to setup, operate and maintain manual welding, grinding and/or cutting equipment.
• Ability to understand and work from drawings and/or specifications with proficiency
• Recognize, setup and operate hand and power tools common to the industry.
• Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications
• Monitor welding procedures to avoid warping, shrinking or otherwise distorting weldments
• Ability to position and secure work pieces using overhead cranes, hoists, fork lifts, etc.
• Ability to grind to a # 4 finish using procedures typically determined by others
• Ability to setup, operate and maintain OD pipe polishing equipment
• Ability to setup, operate and maintain flat bar polishing equipment
• The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Regular, in-person attendance due to necessary teamwork and personal interactive nature of this position
• Overtime is a mandatory condition of employment and frequent in this position

• Knowledge of metallurgy to minimize distortion while welding
• Basic knowledge of grinding abrasives and material surface finishes
• Knowledge of Paul Mueller Company general work procedures in regards to marking and tagging material with proper work order number and heat codes as required.
• Basic blueprint reading knowledge
• Basic math skills

• HS diploma or GED equivalent preferred
• Previous Machine Shop experience or related technical training

Base Compensation Range: $25.00 - $28.30 per hour

Shift Differential: 10%

Variable Compensation Range: Incentive bonus eligibility up to 12% of gross annual salary base on company performance.

Exposure to conditions, such as: dust, fumes, noise and high-degree varying seasonal temperatures. Machinery with energy sources including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, or other energy.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, handle, grasp or feel; reach with hands and arms climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

Additional effort requirements consist of, but are not limited to, lifting, pushing and pulling material, stairs, and ladders. When there is an occasion to move heavy material greater than 50 pounds, the operator will request assistance from another operator, or utilize provided lifting equipment.
