The Assistant Athletic Director for Media and Communications plays a pivotal role in enhancing the visibility and reputation of the athletic department. This individual is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and implementation of all media and communication efforts related to the department’s athletic programs. Reporting directly to the Athletic Director, the Assistant Athletic Director for Media and Communications will oversee media relations, social media strategy, content creation, and public relations activities to ensure consistent and engaging messaging across all platforms.
MediaRelations
Serve as the primary contact for all media inquiries and coordinate media coverage for athletic events.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets.
Prepare and distribute press releases, game notes, and media guides.
Social Media and Digital StrategyOversee the department’s social media accounts, ensuring timely and engaging content that promotes athletic programs and events.
Develop and execute social media campaigns to increase fan engagement and brand awareness.
Monitor social media trends and analytics to inform strategy and improve outreach.
Content CreationCoordinate the creation and dissemination of multimedia content, including videos, graphics, and written features.
Collaborate with coaches, athletes, and other staff to produce compelling stories that highlight achievements and human-interest elements.
Manage the department’s website, ensuring up-to-date and accurate information.
Public RelationsDevelop and implement public relations strategies to enhance the image of the athletic department.
Organize press conferences, media days, and other events to facilitate media access and coverage.
Handle crisis communication and provide strategic counsel to senior leadership during sensitive situations.
Game Day OperationsProvide game day stats for all home games.
Oversee media operations during home games and events, including credentialing, press box management, and post-game interviews.
Ensure effective communication and coordination with game day staff, photographers, and broadcasters.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, sports management, or a related field
Minimum of 3 years of experience in sports media relations, communications, or a related field
