Position: Charge RN-Weekend (Non-Exempt)

Overview

Find your calling at Mercy! The Charge Nurse works under the supervision of the Director and Clinical Manager, and is responsible for the delivery of efficient, safe patient care through the use of the nursing process, hospital policies and procedures. In addition, the Charge Nurse directs nursing service activities in the department, delegates responsibilities to auxiliary and staff nurses; supervises preparation and maintenance of patient clinical records, and assists with reports on staff performance and services rendered as appropriate or requested.

Assists with bed assignments, and various problems as they arise. Maintains preset inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines, equipment, and tracks narcotics and medications.

Responsibilities
  • Direct nursing service activities in the department and supervise preparation and maintenance of patient clinical records.
  • Delegate responsibilities to auxiliary and staff nurses; assist with reports on staff performance and services rendered as appropriate or requested.
  • Assist with bed assignments and address various problems as they arise.
  • Maintain preset inventory standards for solutions, supplies, medicines, equipment, and track narcotics and medications.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
  • Licensure:
    Obtain and maintain a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure where nursing duties are performed; meet all state board of nursing requirements.
  • Physical requirements/demands:
    Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis; prolonged standing and walking each shift; ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
  • Experience:
  • Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion within 30 days of hire. One or more other certifications may be required based on position/unit, or acquired within department required timeframe, including: ACLS, NRP, ENPC, TNCC, CPHON, OCN, PALS, PEARS, STABLE, C-EFM, and other unit-specific certifications as required.
  • Other:
    Preferred Education, Licensure, Experience, Certifications, and Other requirements as applicable.
