Overview

The Pulmonary Progressive Care Unit (PPCU) provides high‑quality care for patients experiencing acute medical conditions such as pre‑ and post‑lung transplant, pulmonary hypertension, ventilator–dependent weaning, and special drips. The unit is a nine‑bed unit with private rooms and focuses on weaning respiratory support and rehabilitation with a multidisciplinary therapy team. Nurses work closely with physicians, advanced practice nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver timely and effective treatment.

Role

Purpose

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care.

Responsibilities
  • Promotes patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educates patients and families on illness management, post‑treatment home care, and medication administration.
  • Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Participates in professional development.
  • Develops, implements, and documents individualized care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team.
  • Proactively plans and ensures communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
  • Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assesses patient preferences, barriers, and values, including emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
  • Maintains constant state of alertness and performs in a safe manner as a safety‑sensitive position.
