Overview

The Cardiac Cath Lab is a division of the Cardiovascular Procedure Center and is on the leading edge of technology. It has a 97% success rate in acute interventional cases and a 100% rate of STEMI patients receiving emergency percutaneous cardiac intervention within 90 minutes.

Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the nursing care standards. The RN administers conscious sedation and manages airway during procedures and acts as a patient advocate.

• Promote patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
• Educate patients and families on managing illness or injury, including post-treatment home care and medication administration.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in professional development.
• Develop, implement, document individual plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with interprofessional team members.
• Proactively plan and ensure communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs.
• Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, including emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population-specific needs.
• Maintain constant state of alertness to fulfill safety-sensitive obligations.

• Prior critical care, emergency department, or cardiac catheterization experience.
• At least 2 years of bedside experience.
• Must live within 30 minutes of Barnes-Jewish Hospital for call requirement.
• Accepts ADN, BSN, MSN candidates.
• BSN differential.
