Purpose Statement

Responsible for day‑to‑day oversight of nursing operations of the facility and ensuring staffing is adequate to provide care. Oversees the delivery of behavioral health/nursing services with a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude toward customers at all times. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment teams, other departments, and administration to ensure all residents’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental, and cultural needs are met, and addresses customer complaints.

Provides leadership to assure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and nursing practice standards. Recognizes that patient safety is a top priority.

Essential Functions
  • Anticipate and effectively manage changes in census and acuity, allocating nursing resources based on patient acuity and care needs.
  • Role‑model expectations related to customer service and demonstrate a sense of urgency related to patient safety.
  • Enforce and interpret policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
  • Ensure proper staffing for each unit, maintaining staff ratios, and covering call‑offs and vacation time.
  • Ensure chart checks are completed, seclusion/restraint log is up to date, and nursing assessments, MARs, and report sheets are accurate.
  • Complete rounds at the beginning of shift and perform random audits.
  • Assist nursing leaders to ensure all staff are oriented and competent to perform required duties; may include coaching staff.
  • Provide mentoring and training as needed.
  • Assist the nursing leadership team in ensuring facility compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
  • Ensure the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and safe care by monitoring and evaluating patient care processes and outcomes on the patient care units.
  • Coordinate all care rendered to patients, including physician orders and diagnostic information, and ensure consultations are ordered.
  • Document medical, behavioral health information and nursing care.
  • Administer medications and maintain records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist in developing a plan of care with specific and measurable goals, objectives, and interventions, defining actions unique to each patient's needs; update and revise the plan of care as goals or objectives are met or the patient's condition changes.
  • Prioritize tasks and delegate staff to ensure quality patient care.
  • Lead shift for all admissions and discharges, informing physicians of changes in the patient’s conditions and adjusting staffing accordingly.
  • Utilize administrator‑on‑call for situations that require additional attention.
  • Provide direct care as needed.
Other Functions

Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Education / Experience / Skill Requirements
  • BSN from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • Current registered nursing license in the state of the facility required.
  • Greater than one year of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience as an RN in any setting required.
  • One year in psychiatric/recovery programs preferred.
  • Some experience as a charge RN or other leadership position strongly preferred.
Licenses / Designations / Certifications

Current certification or license to practice within the state where the facility is located.

CPR and de‑escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).

First aid may be required based on state or facility.
