Overview

The Ambulatory Float Pool Clinical Nurse at Barnes‑Jewish Hospital provides high‑quality, patient‑centered care across a wide range of outpatient clinical settings. This role supports multiple ambulatory practice areas, including specialty clinics, surgical subspecialties, and procedural areas, offering nurses the opportunity to partner with a diverse healthcare team and to address social determinants of health.

The Role

Full‑time position. Shift hours: 8:00 am–4:30 pm (5/8 shifts). No weekends, no major holidays, no call. Eligible for a sign‑on bonus of up to $7,500. Medical benefits are available and tuition assistance with continuing education is offered.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 5 years of RN experience, preferably in critical care, emergency department or infusion space.
  • BSN preferred.
  • RN license.
Responsibilities
  • Promote patient- and family‑centered care in a healing environment.
  • Educate patients and families on managing their illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care and medication administration.
  • Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Engage in professional development.
  • Develop, implement, and document individualized care plans with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team and the patient/family or caregiver.
  • Ensure proactive planning and communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
  • Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
  • Assess patient preferences and barriers to engagement in care, including values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and maintain a safe environment, as this is a safety‑sensitive position.
