4900 General Surgery cares for a wide variety of patients including Minimally Invasive Surgery, Bariatric, Plastic Reconstruction, Endocrine‑Oncology, Orthopedics and Ophthalmology, and is recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The interdisciplinary team provides a dynamic floor for nursing skill development.

• Promote patient and family‑centered care in a healing environment.
• Educate patients and families on management of illness or injury, including post‑treatment home care and medication administration.
• Participate in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
• Engage in professional development.
• Develop, implement, and document individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, family, and caregiver.
• Proactively plan and ensure communication of the plan of care across the continuum of care.
• Use critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to standards of care.
• Assess patient preferences and barriers to involvement in care, understanding their values, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and population‑specific needs.
• Understand the safety‑sensitive nature of the position and maintain alertness and safety in performing duties.
