Job Overview

Cox Health South, 3801 S National Ave, Springfield, Missouri 65807.

Department:
Public Safety South.

Scheduled Weekly

Hours:

40 hours, 5:30AM – 6:00PM (Day Shift).

Position Summary

An armed officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all health system staff, patients, visitors, and property. The officer fosters a secure and welcoming environment using strong public relations skills, informed awareness, and a consistently visible presence. The role involves actively identifying potential security concerns, implementing preventative and protective measures, seeking appropriate resolutions, responding to incidents, requesting assistance when necessary, and accurately documenting observations and actions in department reports.

Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of the Missouri POST Licensure requirements preferred.
  • Experience: No prior experience required; must be 21 years of age. Must meet the Requirements for Operating Vehicles Owned by Cox Health System Policy, which includes no serious driving violations during the past five years. Serious violations are defined in the Cox Health System Policy.
  • Skills: Able to communicate clearly in a variety of situations; basic computer skills; strong conflict resolution, customer service, and critical thinking skills; ability to assess situations quickly and make informed decisions.
Licensure / Certification / Registration
  • Active Driver's License required.
  • Complete department‑specific training to carry firearms upon completion of academy training for new officers.
  • Must obtain IAHSS Security Officer certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Preferred:
    Current POST Licensure through the Missouri Department of Public Safety with required minimum training standards, yearly training, and certifications supported with current documentation.
