Job Description
A quality control inspector in a roofing company plays a crucial role in ensuring that the roofing installations meet industry standards and customer expectations. The role will also cover many various duties which will require at times working outside in the heat and cold. Their primary responsibility is to inspect and assess the quality of roofing work to identify any defects or issues that need to be addressed before the project is completed.
Inspectionof Materials
- Verify that roofing materials, including shingles, underlayment, flashing, and adhesives, meet specified quality standards.
- Ensure that materials are stored properly to prevent damage or degradation.
- Verify the proper quantities are delivered to the job.
- Conduct inspections at various stages of the roofing project, such as before, during, and after installation.
- Notify the roofing crew of the unsightly appearance of the job site and see it corrected.
- Inspect the roof decking while on the roof or from the attic if necessary.
- Verify that the roofing system is being installed according to manufacturer guidelines and industry standards.
- Ensure that the roofing work complies with local building codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Stay updated on any changes in building codes and regulations that may affect roofing projects.
- Evaluate the workmanship and performance of the roofing crew to ensure proper installation techniques are followed.
- Identify and document any workmanship issues, such as improper fastening, flashing installation, or poor sealing.
- Conduct water and leak testing to verify the integrity of the roofing system.
- Identify and address any leaks or areas where water penetration may occur.
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, including photographs and written reports.
- Document any non‑compliance issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Communicate inspection findings to roofing contractors, project managers, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Collaborate with roofing crews to address and rectify any identified issues.
- Stay current with industry trends, roofing materials, and installation techniques through ongoing training and education.
- Provide guidance and training to roofing crews to improve overall work quality.
- Ensure that safety protocols are followed during roofing installations to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Address customer concerns and questions related to the quality of roofing work.
- Work with customers to resolve any quality-related issues promptly.
- Ensure that roofing projects are eligible for manufacturer warranties and guarantees by following installation guidelines.
- Assist in warranty claims and documentation if issues arise after installation.
- Continuous improvement on quality is a must.
- Collaborate with management to implement process improvements and quality control initiatives.
- Minimum high school diploma; construction management is a plus but not a requirement.
