** Damage Prevention Specialist (Non-Supervisory)

* Position Summary:
** The Damage Prevention Specialist is responsible for protecting underground utility infrastructure through accurate utility locating, field inspections, communication with contractors and crews, and proactive damage prevention practices. This position works closely with excavation teams, drilling crews, utility owners, and project stakeholders to ensure safe excavation and compliance with state and federal regulations.
This is a field-based position requiring extensive travel and the ability to work independently in varying weather and jobsite conditions.
** Key Responsibilities
** Perform utility locating and damage prevention activities in accordance with company standards and applicable regulations. Identify, mark, and document underground utilities using industry-standard locating equipment and practices. Support excavation and drilling operations by ensuring proper utility identification and clearance procedures. Communicate with contractors, drilling crews, utility owners, and internal teams regarding locate requests, conflicts, and safety concerns. Conduct field inspections and maintain accurate documentation of locate activities, incidents, and jobsite conditions.
Respond to emergency locate requests and assist with damage investigations when needed. Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with OSHA, company, and customer safety requirements. Utilize mapping systems, GPS technology, mobile applications, and electronic ticket management systems. Maintain company equipment, vehicles, and tools in good working condition. Represent the company professionally while working in the field and interacting with customers and stakeholders.
** Required Qualifications
** Previous utility locating experience OR underground drilling experience required. Working knowledge of underground utility systems, excavation practices, and damage prevention standards. Ability to read and interpret utility maps, prints, and field documentation. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record. Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on active construction sites.
Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment as needed.
** Preferred Qualifications
** Bilingual in Spanish and English is a plus.
Experience with HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling), construction, or utility infrastructure projects preferred. Knowledge of One Call/811 processes and utility damage prevention regulations preferred. Experience using locating equipment and GPS/mapping technology preferred.
** Travel Requirements
** Willingness and ability to travel up to 75% of the time, including overnight travel when required. Work Environment Primarily field-based with exposure to construction sites, roadways, and outdoor environments. May require extended hours, weekend work, and emergency response availability depending on project demands.
Physical Requirements Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in confined or difficult environments. Ability to safely operate company vehicles and field equipment.
