Mobile Diesel Technician Level II

The Mobile Diesel Technician Level II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and follow‑up repairs, light mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. They may perform more advanced diagnostics and repairs under the supervision of a Sr Mobile Diesel Technician or higher. The technician continues to learn advanced mechanical skills and diagnostic techniques while complying with all company policies and achieving high level performance metrics.

DUTIES
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Make minor adjustments and repairs on truck equipment, including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differenti. etc.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair truck equipment, including electrical, braking, cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differenti. etc.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road‑test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper operation.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and generate and evaluate alternatives using sound judgment.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conducting safety checks, and pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, and resolve problems.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, prioritizing work activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work according to company standards and upload photos of work performed, parts used, and findings on repair orders (“RO”) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documents in a timely manner.
  • Work independently and manage one's own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with safety, health, environmental policies, and federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).
  • Maintain the service truck, conduct safety checks and daily pre‑/post‑trip inspections.
REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma/GED with 3 years of relevant experience. Alternative qualifications may include a degree/certification beyond HS and 5 years of experience.
