Job Purpose
The Maintenance Painter performs skilled painting work in the preparation, patching, finishing, and maintenance of interior and exterior surfaces, including wood, plaster, drywall, steel, concrete, piping insulation, and brick on all University building structures, walls, woodwork, furniture, and equipment. The painter applies paint using brushes, rollers, sprayers, sandpaper, sanders, steel wool, wire brushes, and related tools, following accepted procedures and techniques of the painting trade.
The painter also practices preventive maintenance of painting tools and equipment and complies with federal regulations governing environmental protection, hazardous waste disposal, and the use of chemicals.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a painting vocational/technical program or apprenticeship preferred.
- At least four years successful experience in the painting trade required; experience with wall covering installation preferred.
- Skilled painting ability using hand and power tools; ability to interpret blueprints, color schemes, sketches, and schematics required.
- Computer literacy required.
- Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally; ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach, and work at heights from ladders or scaffolding.
- Valid Missouri driver’s license required.
- Willingness to work nights, evenings, holidays, and weekends as needed.
