Assessment & Referral Clinician
Full‑time | Psychiatry | 12 hour shift | Springfield, MO 65803
Full‑time psychiatrist intake position. Responsible for handling a high volume of public and professional inquiries, scheduling and conducting intake appointments, following up on calls, and tracking admissions. Use a multi‑line telephone system and update bed and assessment boards. Work under the supervision of the Director of Intake.
Responsibilities- Conduct intake interviews to assess the appropriate level of care.
- Receive inquiry calls and conduct initial screening for service viability.
- Act as client liaison, providing accurate interviews of patient needs and making appropriate referrals.
- Accurately assess psychosocial and emotional status of children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
- Coordinate with the business office/utilization review and verify insurance.
- Coordinate communications between clinical staff, nursing staff, business office, and business development staff.
- Monitor referrals and follow up with professional or agency referral sources regarding patient disposition.
- Document, collect, and organize data from inquiry calls to assist referral development.
- Apply logical problem‑solving to manage situations positively.
- Participate in hospital programs designed to ensure patient safety, such as fire drills and Code 1.
- Express ideas and concerns constructively.
- Notify supervisor of essential information.
- Use appropriate channels of communication and lines of authority.
- Provide oral and written communication with clarity and accuracy.
- Maintain open communication with physicians and staff throughout the hospital to support facility goals.
- Work and interact with others to accomplish departmental goals.
- Treat peers with respect and dignity.
- Handle patient/family complaints according to policy.
- Assist in all areas of the department as needed.
- Accept expected and unexpected duties willingly.
- Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor.
- Graduate from a registered nurse accredited school or hold a master’s degree in psychology, behavioral health, or a related field.
- Preferred experience in behavioral health assessment and/or treatment.
- Preferred minimum of one year’s experience on an inpatient behavioral health unit.
