Bus Driver – Transportation Department
Location: Springfield Public Schools Transportation Center - Springfield, Missouri

Salary: $22.64 to $26.79 per hour
GENERAL PURPOSE
Responsible for transporting students on scheduled routes and/or to special excursions, ensuring vehicle safety, and maintaining student safety during loading and unloading.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Advise passengers on appropriate behavior to reinforce safety guidelines.
- Assist passengers with safe loading and unloading during normal transport and emergencies.
- Attend training, workshops, and unit meetings required for job performance.
- Conduct emergency evacuation drills in compliance with regulations.
- Drive school buses on scheduled routes to school and field trips safely and timely.
- Fuel, inspect, and report vehicle defects to maintain safe operating condition.
- Inform school personnel and parents about transport events and policies.
- Enter pre-trip and post-trip data in Zonar, maintaining accurate records.
- Keep vehicle interior swept and exterior windows clean.
- Monitor passengers during transit to ensure safety.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections per regulations.
- Prepare reports documenting activities and comply with guidelines.
- Report incidents, complaints, accidents, or emergencies to supervisor and recommend resolution.
- Communicate observations and incidents to appropriate personnel.
- Respond to student, parent, or staff inquiries about transportation services.
- Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Minimum one year of related experience (preferred).
- Valid Class "B" CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, no air-brake restrictions.
- Meet all state, federal, and district requirements for school bus drivers.
- Pass Pre-Placement Physical Capacities Test.
- Pass DESE Transportation Physical Exam.
- Pass D.O.T Drug and Alcohol Test and random testing.
- Pass Criminal Background Clearance satisfactory to the District.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Basic math and reading manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats.
- Knowledge of emergency evacuation techniques, vehicle maintenance, first aid, health standards, and safety practices.
- Ability to perform multiple technical tasks and adapt skills to changing conditions.
- Competence in safety practices, accurate record keeping, and operating special-need equipment.
- Schedule activities, collate data, and use job-related equipment.
- Work collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and handle distractions.
- Apply critical thinking/problem solving to improve work processes.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
- Work indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to weather, roadway traffic, and confined spaces.
- Work includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, and kneeling with significant force up to 100 pounds.
- Require fine finger dexterity, balancing, visual acuity, and mental acuity for safe operation.
