The Springfield City School District, a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 students, is seeking a Physical Education teacher for the 2026-27 school year. We value diversity and emphasize social and emotional learning, supported by a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center.
Responsibilities- Develop lesson plans, instructional materials, and provide individualized and small‑group instruction.
- Use multiple approaches to instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
- Engage in active, hands‑on, creative, and innovative approaches to help students improve skills.
- Identify and build on student strengths.
- Embrace, support, and follow District enacted programming in academic, behavioral, and emotional support.
- Facilitate ongoing assessments to determine instruction starting points, monitor needs, and evaluate progress.
- Evaluate, grade, and assess student work.
- Maintain class records and report grades and progress.
- Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities and needs, including SEL support.
- Assist students in developing responsible behaviors and a positive work ethic.
- Implement an effective program of instruction reflecting the Ohio Department of Education.
- Interact with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental‑health specialists, and/or counselors to provide a safe, student‑centered environment.
- Engage in collaborative planning with colleagues, supporting building and District‑level programs.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student/classroom issues.
- Maintain a professional demeanor, exemplifying responsible leadership.
- Manage all situations in a positive and professional manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Flexible work schedule and willingness to attend professional development.
- Willingness to serve on teams.
- Ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Enthusiasm for the role.
As a contracted employee: 183 days per year, 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. Please refer to the current agreement for pay and benefits in effect for the 2025-26 school year.
