Job DescriptionWho We Are:
The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Physical Education Teacher at Perrin Woods Elementary School for the school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre-K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The Springfield City School District values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.
Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!
As a Teacher you are required to:
- Current 7‑12 licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education in Physical Education.
- Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions.
- Be willing to serve on teams.
- Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role.
Preferred qualifications:
- Previous experience in an urban setting (not required).
As a Teacher you will:
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
- Manage a classroom that is organized and professional, conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
- Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encourage parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities.
- Maintain close relationships with parents, communicating on a regular basis, specifically regarding at‑risk students.
- Actively engage at‑risk students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
- Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed.
- Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of our District.
- Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content, and the varied needs of students.
What We Offer:
As a contracted employee, you will work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.
Contracted employees receive competitive benefits.
All employees receive professional development.
The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement for pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
