Job Description

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Gifted Intervention Specialist for the  school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The Springfield City School District values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.

Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!

As a Gifted Intervention Specialist, you are required to:

  • Valid Ohio teaching certificate or license in Special Education and will possess or have applied for a Gifted License or endorsement issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited in teacher education
  • Experience working with students with disabilities and diverse learning needs
  • Ability to design, adapt, modify and implement instruction to meet the individual needs of students
  • Ability to arrange and coordinate schedules for planning and instructional purposes

As a Gifted Intervention Specialist, you will:

  • Assists in the assessment and identification of gifted students
  • Assists in the placement of gifted students in appropriate educational services and settings
  • Assists school personnel in the development, appropriate dissemination, evaluation and revision of Written Education Plans for gifted students as required by the Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Provides curricular coaching assistance to the general education teachers serving gifted students
  • Collaborates with general education teachers serving gifted students in implementation of student Written Education Plan
  • Provides ongoing high quality professional development for teachers serving gifted students in the cluster classroom model
  • Assists school personnel in ensuring district compliance with accountability requirements for gifted students as required by the Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Meets regularly with the Gifted/Talented Coordinator
  • Understands the complexities of the gifted learner process and is able to design and support practices that help teacher be successful.

What We Offer:

As a contracted employee, Gifted Intervention Specialist works 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.

Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development.

The Springfield Education Association and the Board of Education are currently working on a new professional agreement. While that is in the works, please refer to the current agreement as to pay and benefits that are in place for the 2025-26 school year.
