The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Science Teacher at Schaefer Middle School for the school year. The district serves approximately 7,500 students from Pre-K through grade 12 across 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings. Our academic and extracurricular programs focus on social and emotional learning, a 1:1 initiative, and a digital learning lab offering 3-D printing, graphic design, and videography.

- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small-group instruction.
- Use multiple approaches to meet diverse learning needs.
- Engage in active, hands‑on creative and innovative approaches to enhance student learning.
- Identify and build on student strengths.
- Support District programming in academic, behavioral, and emotional areas.
- Facilitate ongoing assessments and monitor student progress.
- Evaluate, grade, and assess student work.
- Maintain class records and report progress at term end.
- Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities, emphasizing SEL support.
- Assist students in developing responsible behaviors and positive work ethic.
- Implement an effective program reflective of Ohio Department of Education standards.
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals, nurses, mental health specialists, and counselors to maintain a safe, student‑centered environment.
- Communicate with parents and caregivers to address classroom issues.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and exemplify responsible leadership.
- Manage all situations positively and professionally.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
- Flexibility in work schedule and willingness to attend professional development sessions.
- Willingness to serve on teams.
- Ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Enthusiasm for the role.
As a contracted employee, teachers work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement and increases with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. The Springfield Education Association and Board of Education are developing a new professional agreement; refer to the current agreement for pay and benefits for the 2025-26 school year.
