Job DescriptionWho We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking an ESOL teacher for Springfield High School (9‑12) during the 2026‑2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I district serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The district values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty, and staff.
Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunities, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, a digital learning lab offering activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. We are Wildcats!
As an ESOL Teacher you are required to:
- Valid teaching license issued by the Ohio Department of Education that allows teaching in a core content subject matter
- TESOL certified or currently enrolled in a certification program to complete by the beginning of the school year
- Outstanding personal/interpersonal skills
- Sensitivity to developmental stages of children, second‑language acquisition, and cultural awareness
- Openness toward parent communication
- Experience with technology facilitating instruction
- Willingness to be flexible in teaching assignments within the district
- 1‑3 years of teaching experience
- Experience with English Learners
- Bilingual in Spanish, Haitian Creole, French
As an ESOL Teacher you will:
- Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio's English Language Proficiency Standards
- Provide effective instruction to EL students to develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
- Demonstrate flexible teaching: immersion/push‑in, whole‑group, small‑group, individual, collaborative teaching, etc.
- Monitor EL progress toward English proficiency, content‑area classwork, attendance, and general school behavior
- Support language proficiency tests for ELs
- Prepare and maintain documentation required for state reporting related to ELs
- Model a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use them within content‑area and ESOL classrooms
- Teach stand‑alone ESOL classes and collaborate with content‑area teachers to support ELs' academic success
- Build rapport with staff and community
- Assess ELs regularly and provide progress reports as required
- Know the RTI process and seek support of appropriate specialists when needed
- Provide support to ELs with disabilities
- Facilitate and document communication with parents
- Provide technical assistance and general support to content‑area teachers regarding ELs
- Train and assist buildings and individual teachers to ensure appropriate identification and service of ELLs
- Champion EL students
- Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, training, and professional development as required
- Analyze student data to inform Tier 1 instruction
- Implement effective classroom management strategies
- Perform other duties as assigned
(The ESOL teachers will work closely with content teachers, coaches, and other educational staff to collaborate and support teaching methodologies within the inclusion/push‑in model)
