2nd Grade Teacher - Simon Kenton Elementary

Job Description

The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a 2nd Grade Teacher at Simon Kenton Elementary School for the  school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the-art buildings in west‑central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, which is a digital learning lab offering students activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography. • Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education with certification to teach 2nd grade.
• Possession of or in the process of applying for The Reading Endorsement or have passed Praxis 5203 (Teaching Reading: Elementary Education).
• Be flexible in your work schedule and be willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions.
• Be willing to serve on teams.
• Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role.

• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
• Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
• Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encourage parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities.
• Maintain close relationships with parents, communicating on a regular basis, specifically in regards to at‑risk students as defined by the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
• Actively engage at-risk students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
• Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed.
• Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of our District.
• Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
• Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students.

• As a contracted employee, teacher work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day.
• Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increases with experience and education.
