Job Description

Who We Are: The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Visual Arts Teacher at Springfield High School for the 2026‑2027 school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students, in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, a digital learning lab offering 3‑D printing, graphic design, and videography.

As a Teacher you are required to:

  • Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education
  • Possession of or in the process of applying for the Reading Endorsement or have passed Praxis 5203
  • Be flexible in your work schedule and willing to attend professional development sessions
  • Be willing to serve on teams
  • Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role

As a Teacher you will:

  • Develop lesson plans, instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction
  • Use multiple approaches to instruction to meet diverse learning needs
  • Engage students with hands‑on creative and innovative approaches to develop skills
  • Identify and build on student strengths
  • Support and follow all district programming in academics, behavior, and emotional support
  • Facilitate ongoing assessments, monitor instructional needs, and evaluate student progress
  • Evaluate, grade, and assess student work
  • Maintain class records and report grades at term end
  • Provide instruction to students with varying capabilities and needs with SEL support
  • Encourage responsible behavior and positive work ethic
  • Collaborate with colleagues on building and district-level programs
  • Communicate with parents and caregivers about student or classroom issues
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and lead positively
  • Manage all situations professionally
  • Perform other duties as assigned
What We Offer

As a contracted employee: Work 183 days per year, 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increasing with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development. For current pay and benefits, refer to the 2025‑26 agreement.
