The Springfield City School District seeks a Guidance Counselor for Springfield High School for the school year. We serve approximately 7,500 Pre-K through 12 students across 17 facilities in west-central Ohio. - Develop and provide monthly whole-group (class) lessons to support learning in relationships, social and emotional strategies, bullying, etc.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to present proactive, prevention-based guidance curriculum lessons.
- Provide weekly group counseling for students facing relationship, personal concerns, problem behaviors, or developmental tasks.
- Organize and develop daily/weekly schedules to include small group counseling and whole-group lessons.
- Support students in alignment with social-emotional learning (SEL) goals and initiatives.
- Counsel students with varying needs, challenges, skills, and abilities; assist chemically dependent and maladjusted students.
- Facilitate and lead building 504 planning processes in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Communicate regularly with students, staff, parents, and the Principal; engage with building leaders, curriculum coaches, intervention specialists, paraprofessionals, and teachers as needed.
- Support parent and family outreach efforts; partner with school nurse(s) and/or District mental health professionals as needed.
- Consult with stakeholders regarding strategies to help students and families; serve as a consultant about students to educators, parents, and community.
- Provide opportunities for parental conferences to discuss social, educational, and career development of students.
- Interpret cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests as needed and analyze data to support individual academic and behavioral plans.
- Collaborate with the Principal to identify and resolve student issues; prepare for and attend RTI, IEP, mediation, and/or Juvenile Court as needed.
- Provide crisis intervention and assist with cognitive/academic assessments; refer for psychological services as needed.
- Adhere to reporting requirements for potential safety concerns; follow mandated reporting procedures.
- Document student development and progress using district platforms; serve as a student advocate; train students as peer mediators, conflict managers, tutors, and mentors.
- Use referral sources to address concerns such as suicidal ideation, violence, abuse, depression, anxiety, and family difficulties.
- Assist students in exploring educational and vocational options; help them access academic remediation and support as needed.
- Provide ongoing professional development and perform other duties as assigned.
- Valid School Counselor Licensure
- Master's Degree in Counseling, Guidance, or Social Work
- Minimum of 3 years of counseling experience preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in an academic setting preferred
Contracted status: Guidance Counselors work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day, with potential for extended days.
Starting salary: $49,689.00, with increases for additional education and experience.
