The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a Guidance Counselor at Springfield High School for the  school year.

The Springfield City School District is a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. • Valid School Counselor Licensure
• Master's Degree in Counseling, Guidance, or Social Work
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a counseling role (preferred)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience in an academic setting (preferred)

• Develop and provide monthly whole‑group lessons on relationships, social and emotional strategies, bullying, and related topics.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to deliver proactive, prevention‑based guidance curriculum lessons.
• Provide weekly group counseling for students dealing with personal concerns, problem behaviors, or developmental tasks.
• Organize and develop a daily/weekly schedule that includes small‑group counseling and whole‑group lessons.
• Support students in alignment with social‑emotional‑learning (SEL) goals and initiatives.
• Counsel students with varying needs, challenges, skills, and abilities.
• Assist chemically dependent and maladjusted students.
• Facilitate and lead 504 planning processes in accordance with state and federal laws.
• Communicate regularly with students, staff, parents, and the principal.
• Collaborate with building leaders, curriculum coaches, intervention specialists, paraprofessionals, and teachers.
• Support parent and family outreach efforts.
• Partner with school nurse(s) and/or district mental health professionals as needed.
• Consult with stakeholders on strategies to help students and families.
• Serve as a consultant to educators, parents, and the community about students.
• Provide opportunities for parental conferences to discuss students’ social, educational, and career development.
• Interpret cognitive, aptitude, and achievement tests when needed.
• Analyze data related to student academic and behavioral performance to support individual student programs.
• Collaborate weekly with the principal to identify and resolve student issues.
• Prepare for and attend RTI, IEP, Mediation, and/or Juvenile Court as required.
• Provide insight into students’ special needs and manage information for psychological referrals and special placements.
• Adhere to reporting requirements for potential concerns and threats to student safety.
• Document student development and progress using district platforms.
• Act as a student advocate.
• Train students as peer mediators, conflict managers, tutors, and mentors.
• Use referral sources to address concerns such as suicidal ideation, violence, abuse, depression, anxiety, and family difficulties.
• Assist students in exploring educational and vocational choices.
• Assist students in receiving academic assistance and remediation.
• Provide crisis intervention.
• Seek and engage in professional development.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

As a contracted employee, Guidance Counselors work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day, with the possibility of extended days. Starting salary is $49,689.00, with increases for additional education and experience. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits, and all employees receive professional development. Salary details are available in the Springfield Education Association (SEA) negotiated agreement.

$1,600.00 Annual Longevity Bonus awarded to the successful candidate.
