The Springfield City School District, home to The John Legend Theatre, is seeking a 3rd Grade Teacher at Kenwood Elementary School for the school year. We are a nationally ranked Division I District serving approximately 7,500 Pre‑K through grade 12 students in a vibrant learning community of 17 state‑of‑the‑art buildings in west‑central Ohio. The district values the racial, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity of our student body, faculty and staff.
Our academic and extracurricular aim is to ensure social and emotional learning growth for students with a wealth of opportunity, including a 1:1 initiative and the You Media Center, a digital learning lab offering activities such as 3‑D printing, graphic design and videography.
- Current licensure issued by the Ohio Department of Education with certification to teach 2nd grade.
- Possession of or in the process of applying for The Reading Endorsement or having passed Praxis 5203 (Teaching Reading: Elementary Education).
- Be flexible in your work schedule and willing to attend/participate in professional development sessions.
- Be willing to serve on teams.
- Have the ability to relate to and teach students with diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm in your role.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student.
- Manage an organized and professional classroom that is conducive to learning and the development of the whole child.
- Foster a cooperative and respectful partnership with families and encourage parent involvement through classroom observations and volunteer opportunities.
- Maintain close relationships with parents, communicating on a regular basis, specifically in regards to at‑risk students as defined by the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.
- Actively engage at‑risk students in the learning process; plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students.
- Recognize the needs of individual students and the entire group and offer support and flexibility as needed.
- Work as part of a cooperative and diverse team of educators and administrators to carry out the goals of our District.
- Utilize technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
- Participate in professional development activities that are aligned with district and building goals, assigned subject content and the varied needs of students.
As a contracted employee, teachers work 183 days per year and 7.25 hours per day. Starting salary is in accordance with the negotiated agreement, increasing with experience and education. Contracted employees receive competitive benefits. All employees receive professional development.
Salary details are available in the Springfield Education Association (SEA) negotiated agreement for the 2025-26 school year.
