620T06 Paramedic – Springfield Regional Medical Center

Job Summary

Paramedic provides direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Functions
  • Provides basic patient care and tasks including care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assistance with mobility, lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN or Physician based on state and market guidelines.
  • Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, including colostomy care, IV insertion/removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, initiates CPR when needed, Foley catheter placement, identifies patients in crisis or decline and alerts RN for further assessments, and other unit-based duties per state and department guidelines under the direction of an RN.
  • Completes patient rounding as assigned.
  • Assists with giving patient instructions and discharge; administers medication in a safe manner consistent with the State Scope of Practice and Bon Secours Mercy Health Policies and Procedures per market guidelines.
  • Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
  • Delivers high level customer service to patients, families, community providers, visitors and employees.
  • Maintains accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
  • Participates in handoff reports of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
  • Collects data within scope and completes patient screenings as applicable.
  • Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.

Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Successful completion of a Paramedic program at the certificate or associate degree level (required)
Licensing/Certification
  • BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support and PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred at hire; must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care; ACLS and PALS required within 6 months of hire)
  • Current paramedic-level certification (required)
Experience
  • 1 year Paramedic (required)
  • 2-3 year Paramedic experience (preferred)
