Referral Specialist

The Rocking Horse Community Health Center (RHCHC) is a Federally Qualified Health Center that serves vulnerable populations. We are looking for a Referral Specialist to support our care team by managing referrals to specialists, coordinating prior authorization, communicating with patients, and maintaining accurate patient records in the EHR and electronic scheduling system.

Responsibilities
  • Send referrals to specialists via fax or phone as needed.
  • Obtain required prior authorization for specialty care.
  • Notify patients about referrals and follow up as required.
  • Maintain patient files in the electronic health record and scheduling system.
Compensation and Benefits

The position offers a generous compensation package that includes medical, dental, and vision benefits; company‑paid life and long‑term disability insurance; and the opportunity to accrue up to four weeks of paid time off per year. The role also includes ten paid holidays.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training; knowledge of medical terminology is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a patient care setting is preferred.
  • Current driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence.
  • Basic mathematical skills, including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing in whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Problem‑solving ability and the capacity to handle non‑standardized situations.
  • Computer skills, including knowledge of database software.
  • Understanding of privacy policies; ability to handle protected health information appropriately.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with a commitment to patient‑centered care.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly sit; stand; walk; use hands for speaking, hearing, and handling items up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires vision within 20/20 for close and distance tasks, color vision, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

The work setting involves frequent interaction with patients and members of the general public in a moderate‑noise environment. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues may occur. The schedule depends on patient needs and may include evenings, weekends, and overtime.
