Under general supervision, the cytotechnologist performs the tests ordered in the specific laboratory section(s) as assigned. This position will ensure and maintain high quality patient care.
- Prepares and stain cytologic preparations and screen smears for abnormalities.
- Assists at biopsy procedures.
- Collects and reports Quality Assurance Data. Performs clerical functions such as data entry, accessioning, filing and billing.
- Responsible for the day-to-day laboratory section operation and performing and reporting test results.
- The cytotechnologist is responsible for recording:
- The slide interpretation results of each case examined or reviewed.
- For each twenty-four (24) hour period, the total number of slides examined or reviewed in all laboratories.
- The number of hours spent examining slides in each twenty-four (24) hour period.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited Cytology Program, and at least two (2) years of related work experience in the field of Cytology.
- License/Certification: CT (ASCP) Certification
- Ability to perform a full range of cytologic procedures.
- Ability to evaluate new techniques and procedures in the laboratory.
- Sitting in a normal seated position, walking, and/or standing for extended periods of time.
- Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.
- Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard.
- Communication skills using the spoken word.
- Ability to see within normal parameters.
