Job OverviewPosition: CNC Machining Team Lead
Shift: 6 pm – 6 am (C Shift)
- Set up and operate 3‑ to 5‑axis CNC machine tools to machine parts per work instructions and manufacturing plan, including work and tool offsets.
- Operate multiple production machines and test machine safety features during set‑up.
- Verify conformance of in‑process and final products through dimensional and visual inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, profilometers, CMMs, etc.).
- Provide training and guidance to machinists.
- Read, write, and understand G&M code programming.
- Set up complex CNC machines and make modifications or recommendations to process engineering.
- Use proper material handling techniques to ensure product quality and equipment condition.
- Maintain product specifications by performing accurate measurements, detecting malfunctions, and replacing worn tools while adhering to quality assurance procedures.
- Follow work instructions, setup sheets, and other production-related information.
- Document measurements and visual observations by completing production and quality logs.
- Set tooling geometry using tool setter and tool dresser.
- Generate maintenance work orders for repair of CNC machines and equipment.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of Silfex Quality Management System and apply quality and operating procedures appropriately.
- Contribute to lean initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement and applying lean concepts and tools within the value stream.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality control, metrology, and programming to resolve manufacturing issues.
- Act as acting lead in the absence of the direct supervisor.
- Perform other job duties as assigned.

- Apply lean manufacturing concepts and 5S; demonstrate ownership of continuous improvement ideas and activities.
- Maintain organization, cleanliness, and housekeeping; maintain 5S within the work area.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
- At least 6 years of experience operating a CNC machine, with 1 year of leadership experience (1 year at Silfex preferred).
- Machine control experience and understanding of input tool geometry.
- Intermediate troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of 5S and Lean manufacturing concepts.
- Ability to apply and teach standard practices and techniques.
- Fluent in G&M code.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Quality- and safety-minded leadership.
- Basic proficiency operating computers, including navigation of software and web-based platforms.
- Strong math skills, particularly trigonometry.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Associate degree or diploma from a technical or trade school.
- Troubleshooting G&M code.
- Previous experience as a team lead.
- Knowledge of GD&T.
- Maintenance experience and collaboration with maintenance department.
- Experience machining Si, glass, or other brittle materials.
