Position Summary

The Director of Development is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing The Ohio Masonic Communities Foundation’s fundraising activities to achieve annual giving goals. The Director has responsibility for driving the annual campaign via volunteer auxiliary groups, major gift development, capital campaigns, grants, and planned gifts. The Director will work closely in collaboration with the Strategic Partnerships and Executive Director on special events, social media, and direct mail appeals in support of campaigns.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and Board of Trustees.
  • Grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors.
  • Identify and qualify prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis establishing effective relationships and uncovering their linkage, ability and interest to and for the mission.
  • Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements.
  • Build a planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
  • Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives.
  • Collaborate with and support the Director of Strategic Partnerships on all fundraising special events.
  • Partner on employee giving program initiatives.
  • Oversee prospect research.
  • Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about The Ohio Masonic Communities & Foundation with the community.
  • Participate in Board Development Committee meetings.
  • Collaborate with other Foundation and OMC Marketing staff to create publications that support fundraising and donor relations activities.
  • Maintain and enhance the annual donor recognition program, Circle of Roses, as well as the Rose Society lifetime recognition program.
  • Ability to travel and attend events as needed.
  • Must embrace the mission of The Ohio Masonic Communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly major gift fundraising.
  • Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members and other volunteers.
  • Be a "self-starter" and goal driven to initiate donor visits and fundraising calls.
  • Be organized and exhibit "follow through" on tasks and goals.
  • Display a positive attitude, show concern for people and community, demonstrate presence, self-confidence, common sense and good listening ability.
  • A knowledge and understanding of donor management software, specifically Raiser’s Edge.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required. Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in professional fundraising and annual giving.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s license, unrestricted
  • Ability to provide proof of insurance
  • Ability to be insurable under OMC policies
  • Certified fundraising certification(s) CFRE, or CNE, CDE or CNC strongly preferred
