In partnership with the Development Director, the Strategic Gifts Specialist is responsible for supporting strategic matches between donors’ philanthropic passions and Second Harvest Food Bank CCL's most pressing needs. The Strategic Gifts Specialist is responsible for supporting the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of strategic gifts.
Essential Job Functions:
Database/CRM
- Oversees management of Bloomerang software, including data entry, data output, reporting, and training.
- Creates, develops, implements, and maintains database policies and procedures as related to all fundraising activities.
- Document and regularly update the data procedures manual.
- Manage and supervise data and gift-entry processes, ensuring the timely processing of all gifts.
- Advise on proper procedures ensuring accurate recording of gifts.
- Develop procedures, including audit processes, to ensure the integrity and security of database information.
- Keep pace with database advancements and translate into increased functionality for the Development department.
- Continuously improve the quality and integrity of donor data.
- Customize the database as needed to effectively track and report on constituents and gifts.
- Ensure Development team has efficient and effective tracking systems to support fundraising and communication efforts.
- Work with Finance regarding gift entry, gift posting, fund creation, gift restrictions, and audit reporting.
Donor Gifts and Stewardship
- In partnership with the Development Director and other food bank leadership and staff, assist in designing and implementing an annual fundraising plan for strategic gifts.
- Assist in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting individuals, corporations, and foundations believed to have philanthropic interests that match strategic food bank initiatives and needs in coordination with the Development Director.
- Work with other team members as appropriate to design and implement recognition, stewardship activities, and special events for donors and prospects affiliated with the food bank.
- Assist with other fundraising projects, activities, and events as necessary and assigned to reach the food bank’s revenue goals, such as Giving Circles, Planned Giving, and annual fundraising events.
Support of Agency Mission and Operations:
- Learn and adhere to all Feeding America and AIB required standards.
- Receive and maintain Serv Safe certification.
- Work with volunteers and other staff to increase efficiencies of the operation.
- Assist in rapid recognition and resolution of general and food safety issues.
- Participate in AIB certification.
- Other duties as assigned.

Education and Certifications:
- College degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Ability to effectively manage numerous projects simultaneously and work independently.
- Ability to build relationships with distribution partners and professional organizations as critical to effective work.
- Ability to effectively communicate required standards in a style of coaching and employee support, engagement, and recognition.
- Ability to address conflict in a respectful manner.
- Ability to adequately respond to requests and demands in a timely manner and consistently follow through on projects and issues.
- Demonstrated skills in effective communication and listening.
- Demonstrated ability to record and provide written reports.
- Flexible, adaptable, and responsive to change and modifying plans/strategies as needed to best meet the needs of those involved.
- Personal appearance that always reflects self-respect and professionalism.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.

Work Environment: Typical office and warehouse environment, with occasional exposure to excessive noise, adverse environmental issues, and cooler/freezer temperatures.
Physical Demands: Regular office demands of sitting and working at a desk, ability to move event equipment as needed.
