Position: Security Officer (PRN)

Responsibilities
  • Controls access to facilities through the admittance process; assisting visitors as they gain entry to the facility; screening visitors and employees in a professional manner in order to expedite their admittance to the site or facility
  • Provides an atmosphere in which patients, visitors, and staff know that OVSH cares about their needs, providing a courteous, respectful, and pleasant interaction with each interaction.
  • Communicates in a manner that is open, honest, and responsive in all situations; to the extent authorized, provides information regarding the site and surrounding area as requested by patients and visitors.
  • Monitors entrances and exits; acts to prevent unapproved or unlawful entry and loss prevention.
  • Monitors parking areas to provide safety of patients and visitors and promote appropriate staff parking policies.
  • Monitoring all areas through install video surveillance system and protects information observed as confidential.
  • Directs individuals who cause disturbances to leave the property with professional communications. Reports occurrences to local law enforcement when necessary.
  • Patrols OVSH Campus on foot or in vehicle, checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, unlocked doors, violations, blocked entrances, mechanical problems, and unauthorized persons. Documents finds through appropriate reporting sources.
  • Inspects life safety components of OVSH facilities to include fire extinguishers, fire exit lights, egress lighting, firefighter’s elevator operation, panic alarms, radios, and other equipment for safety.
  • Inspects buildings and grounds for litter and assists in keeping the property well maintained.
  • Protects evidence or scene of incidents in the event of accident, emergency, or investigation; setting up barriers and signage, and provides direction as determined by the authority having jurisdiction.
  • Prepares logs and reports as required through identified systems (Word, Teams, Worxhub, etc.); inspects control logs and takes action as required.
  • Observes and reports incidents or suspicious activity to Campus Security Team Leader, Administration, Safety Officer, or public safety authorities as appropriate for the circumstances.
  • Responds to incidents of fire, medical emergency, bomb threat, flooding, water discharge, elevator emergency, hazardous materials, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions following OVSH emergency policies.
  • Assists in providing way finding assistance to Reception, Materials Management, Elevators (Inpatient Unit), Medical Office Building, and Church Office Building. Provides assistance for those with physical limitations through the use of wheelchair or escorting individuals to their needed location.
  • Maintains knowledge of key hospital departments.
  • Interfaces with Environmental Service to report spills, hazards, or shortages of supplies in restroom.
  • Provides minor maintenance task with direction from Maintenance staff.
  • Responsible for the coordination of lost and found items.
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Have a reliable means of communication (i.e., pager or phone) and transportation (public or private)
  • Must participate in the OVSH pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn security operations and procedures
  • Be an effective team member with professional communications skills.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances
  • Ability to adapt to changes in the external environment and organization
  • Ability to write routine correspondence, including logs and reports
