Overview

Paulding Putnam Electric Cooperative is looking for a Broadband Technician responsible for maintenance and installation of fiber-to-the-premises services. This includes home installations, routine maintenance, and emergency troubleshooting.

Job Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Broadband OSP Manager, performs duties within established policies, procedures, and budgets, including the following:

  • Practice and maintain safety-related work practices and procedures.
  • Provide safe, reliable fiber and broadband service by inspecting structures and equipment for hazards; respond to work requests promptly.
  • Connect and disconnect underground fiber optic drops; bury or remove lines; install equipment on outside of buildings.
  • Route and install fiber and/or cables from outside to inside of homes or businesses; install, terminate, and test Cat-5/6 and fiber; run cables through attics, crawl spaces, and walls.
  • Coordinate with members on locations of outlets and equipment; troubleshoot fiber and broadband issues.
  • Perform service calls as requested; splice fiber optic cables using fusion and mechanical methods.
  • Test repaired, new, or updated equipment and fiber; connect and configure member-owned devices to the fiber network (routers, modems, computers, phones, remotes, televisions).
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technologies and networking used in homes and businesses; educate users on features and services.
  • Perform tasks at various heights and confined spaces; may climb poles with appropriate training and approval.
  • Participate in on-call/stand-by duties during emergencies; respond in a timely manner.
  • Respect members and their property: obtain permission when applicable; interact professionally; avoid and report property damage; remove discarded Cooperative equipment from job sites.
  • Maintain and care for vehicles, tools, and equipment; ensure tools and materials are available on assigned trucks; report any damage promptly.
  • Operate two-way radios per policy; stay aware of Cooperative policies, plans, procedures, and equipment related to FTTP; maintain device/equipment knowledge.
  • Attend training, conferences, and trade shows to develop knowledge related to job functions.
  • Promote the member-owned, community-oriented functions of the Cooperative; comply with random drug and alcohol testing as required by DOT and Cooperative policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma with 2-3 years Fiber Internet Installation experience.
  • Home construction/remodeling experience (preferred).
  • Experience working from a bucket truck and climbing poles (preferred).
Skills and Abilities
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication; ability to convey information clearly and listen to diverse viewpoints.
